Corner Lab

Your car, the corner, and what it's doing there — the setup changes worth trying, in order.

The lap

6 corners, 4 of which decide the lap. What each one asks of the car, and what you do about it.

The lapWide, modern and flat, with a long straight bracketing a technical infield. Grip is good and the kerbs are usable, so the lap comes down to traction out of the slow corners and to not giving up the fast one.
Set up forTraction out of Turn One, the hairpin and the final complex, then a front end that survives the long right without going away over a stint.
Classic mistakeBuilding for the fast sweep. It is one corner and it is mostly commitment; the lap is decided by three exits onto three straights.

Corner by corner

Every corner on this layout

A marks the corners that decide the lap.

T1 Turn One

Slow right · heavy braking

The big stop at the end of the main straight, into a tight right that opens onto the infield.

Technique
Brake straight, and be honest about how much speed the corner will actually take. It is slower than the run up to it suggests.
Demands
Braking-limited · Low speed — aero does little · Wants yaw on entry · Exit-phase limited

T2–4 The Esses

Medium · linking left-right

A flowing sequence where the car is never straight and never fully loaded.

Technique
Set the rhythm early. Chasing the first apex costs you the second and the third.
Demands
Transient, not steady-state · Turn-in transient · Sustained mid-corner load

T5 The Long Right

Medium right · sustained

A long, constant-radius right that holds the front-left loaded far longer than anything else on the lap.

Technique
One input, held. This corner is where a stint's front tyre wear is decided, not where lap time is.
Demands
Sustained mid-corner load · Front grip limited · Degradation over a stint

T8 Back Hairpin

Slow · hairpin

The slowest corner on the circuit, feeding the long run back toward the final sector.

Technique
All exit. Give up the entry and get the power down early — what follows is long.
Demands
Braking-limited · Low speed — aero does little · Wants yaw on entry · Traction-limited · Exit-phase limited

T11 The Sweep

Fast right

Quick and committed, the corner that separates drivers who trust the car from those who do not.

Technique
Carry it. A lift here is worth more than a mistake anywhere else on the lap.
Demands
High speed — aero is live · Wants a settled rear · Sustained mid-corner load

T13–15 Final Complex

Medium · technical · onto the straight

A tight sequence that decides how fast you start the main straight.

Technique
The last apex is the one that matters. Take the kerb square and be patient with the throttle until the wheel is straight.
Demands
Exit-phase limited · Traction-limited · Kerbs are part of the line · Rear grip limited

Corner names and numbering follow common usage; some circuits number differently between layouts.
